How Do You Like My New Theme?

You’ll notice I got a new Wordpress theme for this blog. I’ve gone through several the past couple of years. That’s mainly because I was relying on themes made by others and never could find one that completely suited me. I’ve tried to make my own, but they’ve never turned out very well unti now. I made this one with Artiseer. With Artiseer, you get the #1 Wordpress Theme Generator in the world. You can instantly create great looking professional Wordpress Themes. To say that it’s the best is kind of like comparing a rheem heat pump to every other water pump on the market. It’s the best because there simply isn’t another pump that can do exactly what it does in the way that it does it. That’s Artiseer. I don’t normally glowingly endorse products, but I’ve designed something like a dozen different themes in the past few days using nothing but this program and there’s no going back now. It used to take me weeks to fully created a web page. Now I can do it with a few mouse clicks.

O.C. Heaton presents Why you should watch the new film by Yann Arthus-Bertrandposted at A Rush of Green, saying, “Until last week I had never heard of Yann Arthus-Bertrand, the aerial photographer who spent two years filming the earth from a helicopter. The result of his unusual work was his bestselling book The Earth from the Air, which was published in 2010 and has already sold a staggering 3.5 million copies. His website is well worth a look and it made me realise that although I hadn’t heard his name until relatively recently, I recognised many of his photos. A photographer at his best, I suspect.”

Heaton presents What would you rather have: a penny or £1 million? posted at A Rush of Green, saying, “If you have a goal, you may not reach it after thirty days, three months or even three years, but if you keep chipping away at it, eventually the power of compound interest will kick in and all that foundation effort will deliver tangible results. In my case this is a completed novel, which, during the writing process can seem distant. My first novel is proof of this: it took me ten years to write The Human Race, but I kept going. Word by word, sentence by sentence, paragraph by paragraph, page by page it was eventually finished – and published.”

Shit Happens

Yesterday, while playing a game on my PC, my optical mouse stopped working. I uninstalled the mouse, reinstalled it and rebooted my computer. This seemed to take care of the problem, however, given that since Christmas time I’ve been experiencing a number of glitches, this was just one more sign that my computer’s days were numbered. My previous two desktops each lasted about 4 years when they gave up and died (well . . . the second one hadn’t technically died, but it was working so badly it might as well have been on life support). My current PC is just about a month shy of 4 years. So, I have been expecting it to drop dead. What I didn’t expect was that it would happen this afternoon. I was playing the Sims 3 this morning and everything was working fine. When I returned to my computer this afternoon to do some work, it didn’t work. I mean it wouldn’t boot up. The hard drive was dead and the fans just roared and roared (sounded like the thing would explode).  I doubt it can be fixed and would probably cost too much even if it could. What pisses me off is all the stuff I hadn’t gotten around to backing up. Most of my personal document are safe, but there are some things that aren’t like that crappy novel I wrote a year and a half ago (no great loss), and the next two issues of 13th Warrior Review which were forthcoming after a nearly year-long hiatus (tragic lost of hundreds of files) as well as my Sims 3 game files (all my Simmies and my custom neighborhoods that took me months to create). Luckily, I have this laptop I’m using to write this post, so I can still write and email. Thank the gods for small favors, I guess. What I’m going to do tomorrow and see if there’s any junk I can sell quickly to raise a little money for my new desktop fund. I figure a few extra articles + sell some junk +  some kindly paypal donations (hint-hint) and I may be able to buy a new PC in a couple of months.
