I Need a Cell Booster for My Brain

I had to take my father to his urologist today. While I was waiting, I tried to begin a new short story. I didn’t get very far. Sometimes that’s the way it goes. Communicating with the blank page is kind of like being stuck in a canyon miles from civilization. You can’t get cell phone reception even with a cell booster antenna and it’s only a matter of time before you’re chewing off you own appendages. Seriously, I had what I thought was an interesting premise. Trouble was I just wasn’t feeling it.  Two pages in, I just couldn’t go further. I don’t know why, exactly. Maybe if I’d pressed on I could’ve salvage the situation. Nine times out of ten, you can write your way out of that chasm. Sometimes, that pause in progress is just your brain’s way of telling you that your story sucks.
