Spam and Cockroaches

To me spam comments are a lot like cockroaches. No matter what measures you take to stop them, they always find a way to survive whatever you’re doing to get rid of them.

Askimet captured of 200 spam comments this morning which I have now deleted. That’s just this morning! I find that Askimet does a pretty good job of catching spam, but it’s not completely foolproof. The other day, it mark a legitmate comment as spam and allow two spam comments to get through. I need and extra layer of protection. My old spam protection plugin was imcompatible with the most recent edition of Wordpress so I had to delete that plugin. Other systems I tried were also incompatible. So now I need something else so that I don’t even have to see the endless parade of garbage about prescription drugs, sex products, insurance quotes, online gaming, web porn, etc. Anybody got a plugin suggestion — a solid frontline defense against spam that works nicely with Wordprss 2.8?
