Down Low Country

Cowboy had just graduated from college with a fine arts degree and collection of notebooks filled with song lyrics. He dreamt of being a country music star. Cowboy moved to Memphis. At first, he stayed with his cousin, Stu, in a double-wide mobile home. But, after a couple of months of sleeping on his couch, Cowboy decided it was time to look for a place of his own. He got a job at a local bar as a bartender/bouncer and, found listing for Memphis Land Contract Homes

In the meantime, he was sending his demo tapes out to the producers in Memphis and Nashville — even getting a few gigs in town. Cowboy became a fixture on the open mic circuit, and even performing at colleges in the area. In was around this time Cowboy met Clay, himself an aspiring country and western guitarist who had been doing session work and had also been a roadie for Kenny Chesney. Cowboy and Clay decided to get a place together and pooled their money to buy a place at a tax sale where they had plenty of Government Homes For Sale. Cowboy and Clay formed bought a tiny rancher and set-up a little studio in the basement. The duo of Cowboy and Clay was born.

Time passed. Cowboy and Clay started playing bigger clubs and bars and through the Kenny Chesney connection got a talent agent interested in their music. Country music dreams were born. For the next few years, they toured the country and had a few minor hits. Then, Clay’s drinking became a problem and Cowboy went solo. He had his first major hit with a ballad called, “The Low Country”. Poor Clay ended up getting killed on his motorcycle, coming home from a bar he and Clay used to play at. Cowboy married a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader and started getting into acting. Years later, he got religion and joined the Republican party. Came out against evolution and gay marriage. Started playing at Tea Party rallies and appearing on Fox News. Got caught coming out of a seedy motel with a male prostitute. His life ruined, he shot himself at Clay’s gravesite.
