Create Your Own Website for Free at hPage.com
Generally, I don’t recommend free webhosts as a publishing solution for writers and online publishers. Features are limited. Storage is limited. Terms of service are more restrictive than most commercial web hosts. However, if you are just starting out online and you just want a simple webpage to showcase a resume, service or a few writing samples, a free web host is usually a good short-term solution until your needs change or your presence grows.
There are a lot of free web hosts out there. One I can recommend for website newbies is hPage.com, a free web host offering a fairly sizable storage package for a free, clocking in at 300MB. The basic, out-of-the-box features are pretty standard — you get a choice of a pre-designed template or you can upload your own HTML files. You can have extra features buy earning or buying points. Features like Polls, Members-only areas, passwords, shoutbox, and forums among other extras.
My take on this is it’s not a bad service. The control panel is fairly simple to use, making it easy to create a free website . It seems geared to newbies. There is a decent selection of pre-made template designs — although the designs, as you can see, are not really all that. Fairly bland:
However, if you know some HTML and know how to add video, stylessheets, etc., you can easily have yourself a nice little site for free. I think its worth it for the 300MB of storage space alone. Maybe I’m wrong, but I can’t think of any other free web host that offers that much space for free. Worth a look.
