Now That Halloween’s Over, Time to Think About Christmas

Halloween is over (thankfully, he sighed) and although it’s still a little too soon to think about Christmas, I did find myself, earlier this morning, fantasizing a bit about my wish list. I even went so far as to mosey on over to Amazon to create a wish list.

Tops on my list are a couple of items I really need:

1. An ergonomic office chair. Seriously, my old chair is literally falling apart as I write this. The foam rubber is wearing off the arm rests in chunks and is now taped-up with electrical tape to cover the gaping bald place. And the damn chair is so well-used (being almost a decade old) that it’s no longer very comfortable to sit in for long hours at a stretch. Office furniture — definitely need new office furniture.

2. A laser printer. Basically, my old printer is just about shot. It acts up often. Paper gets jammed frequently. Half the time, it will just quit midway through the print job and have a senior moment, like it’s trying to remember what it was it was doing, lost in traffic or something, only to finish printing several minutes later.

Then of course are all the things I want but can’t buy for myself because it’s either too expensive or conflicts with other spending priorities:

3. The Amazon Kindle 2.0 — I don’t need this nifty little gadget, okay . . . but I really, really want one. As much as I like to read, being able to carry a whole Alexandria-size library in the palm of my hand definitely appeals to me.

4. A Playstation 3 — this damn thing has become something akin to my Moby Dick since it was first released. And since my PS2 died several months ago, this one almost fits into the category of "things I need".

And of course, if I get a PS3, I’ll be needing a few new games to get me started:

5. Grand Theft Auto IV — because I needs to do some virtual killin’

6. Metal Gear Solid IV — because I need to sneak around and do some virtual killin’

7. Killzone 2: — because I need to do some virtual killin’ the hard way.

8. Madden Football ‘10 — because I used to be the God of Madden Football, but haven’t played in a while and am now very rusty.

9. Doctor Who Series 4 DVD — because I love Doctor Who!

And let’s not forget about books:

9. Godspeed by Will Christopher Baer — alright, I’m not even sure this one has even been published yet or why it hasn’t, but I’ve been looking forward to this one for two years.

10. Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk — the only one of his novels I haven’t read.

11. Fallen Angel by William Hjortsberg — the basis for the Mickey Rourke classic, Angel Heart.

12. The Mermaids Singing by Val McDermid — I’m a big fan of the show Wire in the Blood and have just started getting into the novels that inspired the series.
