A Few Things I Don’t Understand

Going through my mail earlier and I’m astounded by the amount of junk mail directed at me for products and services that are of no use to me. My credit is in the crapper — has been since the second quarter of 2007. Yet, I keep getting garbage in the mail offering pre-approved credit cards. I don’t get it. I don’t own property. Yet, I continue to receive offers to refinance my mortgage. Who exactly is responsible for putting my name in the hat for loan modification leads? I don’t get it. Also, I don’t own a car. Why does Geiko keep sending me brochures for their auto insurance? I don’t get it. Likewise, I am not a senior citizen, a woman, gay, black, asian, a latter-day saint, a St. Bernard, a clown, a collector of clown figurines, a degenerate gambler, a casual gambler, an auto mechanic, a survivalist, a smoker of cigars, an eater of caviar, a reader of romance novels, or any number of other things for which I seem to get brochures or catalogs for. It’s funny, because I don’t think I’ve ever gotten any junk mail concerning any topic, product or service I’d actually be interested in and/or use. And maybe that’s why they call it “junk mail”. But it seems to me that’s a lot of money to waste pushing products on people who are in no way likely to consume them.
