I’m Hard On Everything

My TV is at least ten years old. It’s a cheap off-brand Chinese CRT TV — a 20” that sits on an even older printer stand in my bedroom/office. If I had the money I’d certainly have a flat panel HDTV. Not a TV wall mount, but one mounted on a stand with a shelves for the cable box and my DVD player (or a PS3 if I ever get one of those).

But having no money is just an excuse. The real reason I don’t buy a new television is that I’m the type of guy who uses things until they become inoperable, unwearable or completely unusable. It’s true. The reason I don’t own my own car right now is because I drove my last car for 14 years, up until the engine died. The pair of walking shoes I currently have on my feet have holes in them as do at least one other pair of shoes I have in my possession. I’ll wear all my clothing until it’s nothing but rags before I’ll buy a new waredrobe. I’m on my third desktop PC and my second laptop and all my previous computers I used and used and used until they just stopped working. And before I had a PC, I wore-out I don’t know how many typewriters, word processors. I’ve gone through — well . . . I’m on about my fourth printer. I think the only piece of equipment I’ve had as long as my TV that still works is my scanner — a Cannon, and it sure has been a reliable little bastard.

I guess the moral of this tale is that I’m hard on everything . . . but I’m awfully sentimental about it.
