TV Sucks

I’ve got a few minutes to kill before I have to go to my primary doctor for my annual physical so, I’ll leave you with this thought:

TV sucks!

Yes, television sucks, but even so, I watch an hour or two of television 3 nights out of seven with another 2 hours viewed online at random intervals.

Last night, for example, I watched the the season finale of Chuck and Heroes with a plan to catch up on 24 online later this week (I’m wondering how that show’s writer will get Jack Bauer out of his latest brush with death). I expect Heroes to return next season, but Chuck remains in doubt the last time I checked (and how much longer can Heroes continue, anyway?). Kings, a promising new show, looks dead on arrival on NBC. At least, thanks to Direct TV, Friday Night Lights is spared for two more seasons (Is it Satellite Directv or Direct TV Satellite? I swear they have so many different ways to spell that thing). Lost is almost finished on ABC (with just one more season). That means there will be virtually nothing left on the regular networks worth watching (early buzz about next season suggests a lot of cancellations and more reality shows).

And, yeah, I’m well aware of the fact that even good television will rot your brain, but sometimes you just get in the mood for a little brain rot and I find that a little tv before bedtime helps me power down.

So, when I’m not otherwise occupied with other activities, I’ll be looking to alternative networks for cheap entertainment in the future. Rescue Me on FX, Burn Notice on USA and, unless I’m mistaken, the quirky, fun Eureka will return soon on SCIFI.

Navigating Fifty Miles of Bad Road Pt. 5: Body Cleansing

Before you begin in major change in diet and exercise, I forgot to mention a couple of things:

1. Get a complete physical exam

This should be self-explanatory, but in case it isn’t, an exam will not only give you a better idea where you stand health-wise, but will give you a place to start if you need to address a specific issue such as fat and sugar intake or level of activity with regards to exercise program.

2. Detoxify

Before you begin your new, healthier lifestyle, you need to purge yourself of all remnants of the old. A body detox to flush your system of all the bad crap is a good place to start. This means cleaning out your colon and doing a gallbladder/liver flush.

Does Anybody Know?

When the term “cougar” began being used to describe an older woman who dates younger men? Who coined the phrase? The first time I heard the term was sometime after Desperate Housewives debuted. Now it’s everywhere. There are websites devoted to cougar woman dating and any time a female celebrity hooks up with a younger guy, it’s in the tabloids — “cougar this,” and “cougar that.” Hasn’t there always been older woman who date younger men? When did it become such a cultural phenom?
