I Can’t Believe What I Just Heard
I’m sitting with my laptop in the library reading a tutorial on how to make a custom wordPress theme and I cannot believe what I just heard coming from the mouth of a librarian.
The librarian just said to this guy that “if you are listening to an audio book, you are still reading.” WTF? No, no, no and, again, no. Listening to an audio book is not reading — it’s listening. It is not reading any more than listening to Mozart constitutes reading music. I am astounded, shocked, flabbergasted and absolutely incredulous! What kind of librarian says such a thing? I can almost believe in torture! String’er up by her ankles, I say! Hrumph!

No, it’s not the same as reading, but I hope you’re not suggesting that it is not as valuable as reading. I enjoy both reading and audio books. I use audio books when I take a long car trip by myself (they make time fly by) or when I have eye problems or a migraine and cannot bear to read. I also work as a reader for RFBD (Recording for Blind and Dyslexic) which is an organization that records audio books for blind and dyxlexic students who are incapable of reading text. I am glad there are TWO ways to acquire the information provided in books–I use them both.
Proof that even if academic-centered fields, you can find morons.
Yegods. People get stupider every day. Kinda makes you want to smack them, doesn’t it?
