Forget Christmas Shopping, Buy Gift Cards

Written by John Erianne on December 2, 2008 – 6:43 pm -

Years ago, when I had a little bit of money in my pocket, I used to love Christmas shopping. I bought gifts for everybody — family, friends, co-workers and those Salvation Army bell ringers sure loved me. Ah, how times have changed. I’ve become Ebenezer Scrooge. It’s funny how not having money can dampen not only your ability, but your enthusiasm for buying crap for other people. I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling this way about the holidays.

It may sound like a bit of a humbug, but in this economy, if you’re going to bother with gifts at all, you’re better off with gift cards — and not just any gift cards, but personalized gift cards you can customize with your own pictures and artwork.Best of all, in addition to being easy and convenient and personalized, these are Visa gift cards, which means they’re FDIC insured, unlike department store cards.
