Spruce Up Those Bare Walls With Some Modern Art

Written by John Erianne on November 13, 2008 – 3:03 pm -

So you’ve redecorated your writing space. You’ve got your new desk. You’ve got the new bookcases. You’ve got the ergonomic furniture. But, you still have this big empty space on the wall that doesn’t look right. Hmm, you think, what would look good here? What would fill up that space? Why not a nice piece of art work for that wall?

MyWhiteWalls.com might just have what you are looking for with single and multi-panel canvas art as well as metal art. They have a wide selection and the discount prices to match — certainly cheaper than what most galleries will charge for comparable art work. Most of the painting range in price from around $90 to $300. The website is easy to navigate with secure online shopping carts and live customer service.

While I was browsing through the site, I saw several pieces that caught my eye. One of my favorites is a large 3-panel wall canvas entitled “Blood Mountain.” It is one of several pieces that has an asian feel to it. And, for Van Gogh afficianados they are running a 50% off sale on Van Gogh reproductions.

In addition to the quality selection and pricing, MyWhiteWalls.com offers 110% price matching and guarantees that all of our paintings are carefully stretched, and gallery wrapped using the highest quality cotton canvas available.

National Novel Writer’s Month

Written by John Erianne on November 13, 2008 – 11:21 am -

For those of you who’ve been living in a cave, it’s that time of year — no, I’m not talking about the holidays (although, many writers do consider this annual event a big holiday) — I’m talking about National Novel Writer’s Month:

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It’s all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that’s a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.

As you spend November writing, you can draw comfort from the fact that, all around the world, other National Novel Writing Month participants are going through the same joys and sorrows of producing the Great Frantic Novel. Wrimos meet throughout the month to offer encouragement, commiseration, and—when the thing is done—the kind of raucous celebrations that tend to frighten animals and small children.

In 2007, we had over 100,000 participants. More than 15,000 of them crossed the 50k finish line by the midnight deadline, entering into the annals of NaNoWriMo superstardom forever. They started the month as auto mechanics, out-of-work actors, and middle school English teachers. They walked away novelists.

So, kiddies, the month is half over already. What are you waiting for?

And to Think, It’s Not Even Thanksgiving Yet

Written by John Erianne on November 13, 2008 – 10:58 am -

A year ago, just a couple of months or so past my treatments for cancer, I looked like a concentration camp survivor. I mean, I was skeletal — couldn’t gain weight at all. Even during the holidays last year, I was only able to gain a couple of pounds. Man, how times have changed. I’ve not only gained back all the weight I’d lost during my illness, I packed on another twenty pounds. And it’s not yet Thanksgiving! By New Year’s I’m going to need lap-band surgery or at least some new diet pills .
